Although not my favorite genre, I've put myself through quite a few thrillers and hard as I try to reason with James Patterson's ridiculously outlandish but impactful plots, Grisham and Charles Cumming have won me over. To further that staggering count, In the name of Love, R. I must admit, the title threw me off initially. Not your typical Although not my favorite genre, I've put myself through quite a few thrillers and hard as I try to reason with James Patterson's ridiculously outlandish but impactful plots, Grisham and Charles Cumming have won me over.
Not your typical genre-specific formulatic one, it took me time to warm up to it. I lean toward those thrillers that are more character driven because they are more interesting - there are a limited number of variations on murder or bombing but an infinite number of personalities. Prakash has created an interesting protagonist in agent Kabir Garg. Such rage and angst can only be mitigated by a mission well executed and accomplished. The novel is engaging from the get-go, surprisingly poignant in parts.

The setting descriptions are evocative, pacing is perfect and it jumps right into action. Dialogue is crisp and language is rich without being distracting.
It's written in first person and the voice is raw, intelligent and clear. A little hot-headed, just the way you expect a spy to be. Parts of the book are very James Bondish with hot women in mini dresses scuttling around in offices run by good looking spies. Like all terrific thrillers, there's a strong central conflict An organization run by a few good men and their sole purpose, to save the world from prying evil eyes.
Then there are several sub-plots which all come together and contribute towards the central conflict. The climax wraps it all with a nice bow tie after a few customary twists and turns. There are entertaining monologues that surface now and again. Rocket's name in the cast list is Rocket Raccoon, but the character, voiced by Bradley Cooper , was never convinced that meant he was one of Oreo's species. In the first Guardians movie in , when Peter Quill calls him a "talking raccoon," Rocket is confused.
